I made a purchase recently. This one.
I t’s a secondhand IPad Air. I’ve always avoide d Apple and its ecosystem but I thought that at some stage it might be interesting to see life on the other side.
To go with it, because a tablet on its own is of very limited use, one of these, a new Bluetooth keyboard and case.
Thus far it all seems to be working but it’s just different from Windows and Android, not better in any obvious way.

Legit thought that first pic was of mini blinds.
Never owned an iDevice, probably never will, but people seem to like them. Assuming the battery lasts and you don’t ask the world of it I imagine it should serve you well.

I had an Ipod Nano (2GB) back in middle school. As my first mp3 player it was neat but itunes was horrid, not having expandable memory was stupid, and that damn track pad thing was silly. Only apple device I will ever own mostly due to the walled garden thing and sheer cost of all of the devices.

Im assuming this setup was significantly cheaper than just getting a macbook air? I wonder how useful IOS is versus Mac-OS for laptop type things.

iTunes was what made the ipod a non starter for me way back then. Like, what do you mean I can’t drag and drop tracks and would have to completely wipe out my library to transfer a song from a friends computer? Wow, what an advancement! iPhone followed suit with the iTunes dependence so it was never an option for me either. Don’t think I’ve sat in front of a Mac in 25 years. Finder? Chooser? Get serious, I’m trying to do something over here

Well now its all about smart phones anyways. And really in the end when choosing between Android and Iphone, its pretty much the same. I would be hard pressed to be unhappy with an iphone probably. I just couldnt stomache the cost and its still asinine to not use USB C. Even the macbooks have switched over to USB C so its high time the iphone followed suit. Android used to be leagues and leagues ahead of IOS in terms of usability but its pretty much the same now. Removable batteries, SD cards, and headphone jacks have also become rare from Android, removing the other main advantages (although they are all still out there) . All that is left now is cost which will continue keeping me away from the iphones.

Given that the iPad was second hand, yes. It’s not as useful for work purposes as an actual laptop, no, as you don’t get as much software available. I use Libre Office on my laptop and Surface, but that’s not an option on the iPad. MS Office is available for a subscription.
You literally can’t use it as a laptop either as the angle of the screen is too vertical when you use the keyboard case - you have to use it on a desk or table. Having so said the keyboard itself is fine except for the limited size - I’m using it now. It was also about a quarter of what Apple charge for their own keyboard case for the newer range of iPads.

Its annoying to me that software is the main limitation preventing tablets from functioning as full laptops. Seems like it would be such a simple solution to allow for full computing for super cheap, without having to suffer through horrible bargain laptops.
